Milo's Naked!

Last year you might remember I gave Milo what I called an "extended trace clip" where we clipped everything but his saddle area. This time I gave him an entire body clip, just leaving his head, legs, and under belly area. I clipped him a couple weeks earlier than I had done last year because it seemed that his clipped areas werent coming back as soon as it should have been. He was also getting pretty sweaty already after riding.

So, on Tuesday Milo got the big chop. Well, big clip. I was able to borrow a pair of nice clippers from a friend to get the job done. While it took about two hours, and there are definitely touch ups to do (I am no groomer), Milo is now nude!

Halfway clipped...
First side - done!
Look at all that hair! Shoulda saved it for a pillow!

Out in the sunshine!

I think he looks pretty cute. :)

And dont worry, Milo isnt totally naked. He naturally has a blanket and neck cover on.

I have the urge to clip Lilly this year, but more of a trace clip. I just can't get up the nerve. It looks good on him and will be quite helpful during the winter months!

this is the third out of five winters now that I have clipped Milo. Small trace the first year I had him, then 2 years I went without but wasnt riding him a whole lot because he was at a facility with no indoor arena. The last winter and this winter I plan on riding for min 4-5 times a week. The clip really helps, and MIlo gets REALLY furry and we end up spending just as much time waiting for him to dry. Just remember, hair grows back. So dont be afraid!

You did an excellent job! Last time I body clipped a horse the clipper tracks were horrible! What kind of clippers did you use?

I would love to be able to clip Dee. She really sweats and it takes forever for her to dry out, but it just gets so darn cold here in Montana that I have to just deal with the hair.
